Mentawai Fund Raiser

Help Build a New Traditional Uma for Aman Naru and his Family

Why this Fund Raiser

On Siberut, an uma is far more than a house.
It is a living heart of family, ceremony, and community — a place where ancestors are honored, children grow up connected to their roots, and daily life remains woven into Mentawai tradition.

Shaman Aman Naru now faces the great responsibility of building a new uma for his family and elderly parents. He has the knowledge, the commitment, and the cultural duty — but he does not have the resources. Building an uma requires immense work: large forest beams must be selected, cut, transported, shaped, and raised. This work is done by a working crew, and their time, strength, and tools need to be supported.

We are personally helping as much as we can, but the project goes beyond what we alone can provide.

We are raising funds to cover the costs of hiring and supporting the crew who will help prepare and build the uma — ensuring the family has a safe home and their traditions remain strong.
